The kids and I stayed home for their winter break so we took a few nights to enjoy Chicago.

Parking in Chicago

Chicago overnight parking with in and out privileges can be close to $100/per night. I found a suite with an in and out parking package at the Warwick Allerton for $163/night.

If you don’t need your car during your stay, a park app like SpotHero is a great option. Once you get used to how it works you will never pay for city parking the traditional way ever again.

Warwick Allerton

The Warwick Allerton is located by the shops my kids wanted to visit and a few restaurants they selected from a list I made. We walked as many places as we could and drove to the far north neighborhoods for some of their shopping choices. There is no such thing as a cold winter in Chicago, just poor winter gear.

The Allerton hotel in Chicago was a residential club hotel in the 1920s. The Tip Top Tap lounge was one of the popular social spots in the 1940s and their French restaurant was one of the finest in the city. The hotel’s renovations kept the original, historical architectural elements while updating to modern features. The hotel was recently bought out and renamed the Warwick Allerton. It is located in the heart of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, steps away from many shops and restaurants.

The Room

There were three level of suites offered with two beds at the Warwick Allerton. Surprisingly, most Chicago hotels that have suites, don’t have (affordable) suites with two or more beds. For a family with grown children, you are very limited since hardly any of the new or luxury hotels have multiple rooms at the starting level. In fact, I found a lot of spacious 2-person suite hotel rooms with balconies and separate living rooms for just a little more per night. So for a “family” there are a few hotel chains that have adequate space but they are usually booked. You are left with the choice of paying for two hotel rooms, renting a house or condo, or making someone sleep on the rollaway cot. I pick up enough clothing and towels off the floor at home so a house rental or Airbnb is only appealing to me for longer stays.

The Two Queen Beds Suite has a larger living space than the 2 Queen Bed room. The Premium Suite Two Queen Beds (shown below) has a living room with a door. The Executive Suite Two Queen Beds has an additional chair and seating area in the bedroom.
